Sharpened knives not only make tasks so much easier and quicker but it is a well known fact that blunt knives can potentially cause more injuries. With that in mind, we have put together facts about all our sharpening tools below to help you choose the best knife sharpeners for honing and sharpening knives in your chosen knife range.

Rods (Honing and Sharpening Tools)

Sharpening Steels

Both our Gourmet X30 and Professional X50 ranges include 25cm length sharpening steels for honing knife blades, and each of these can also be used with our designpro knives.

How to use

Rest the rod vertically on a chopping board and apply slight pressure to avoid slipping. Using the full length of the blade and holding it at a 20° angle take 3–4 strokes from heel to tip on each side of the rod to straighten the blade.

Diamond Sharpening Rod

How to use

Whetstone Sharpeners

Whetstones

Whetstones are fantastic as they hone and sharpen at the same time, and can be used with all the ProCook knife ranges. Our 600 grit whetstone gives a superbly sharp edge and for the finest finish our combination 600/2000 grit whetstone can’t be beaten.

How to use

Soak your whetstone for 5–10 minutes in water prior to use, and place in a storage tray or on a tea towel. Run the blade up and down the whetstone from heel to tip at a 20° angle using even pressure. Repeat several times and if using the combination stone start with the 600 grit side, then finer 2000 grit to finish.

How to use

Simply draw your knife in a to and fro motion through the ceramic wheel and repeat 2–3 times for optimum results. You can remove the cover and add water for lubrication if needed.

How to use

Remove the cover of the sharpening blade and add 5mm of water to lubricate the wheels. Replace the cover before running your knife blade in a to and fro motion through the diamond wheel to sharpen and repeat with the ceramic wheel for honing and extra sharpness.

How to use

Run your knife in a to and fro motion through the first wheel 3-4 times to take the initial bluntness from the blade. Repeat the process with the second diamond wheel for extra sharpness and to finish, run the blade through the third and final wheel to hone your knife.

How to use
