Store Employees Attend Woodland Trust Engagement Day

Employees from ProCook's stores in Castleford and Chesterfield volunteered to help restore historic Bagger Wood, near the Peak District National Park, as part of ProCook's partnership with the Woodland Trust.

Store Employees Attend Woodland Trust Engagement Day

Employees from ProCook's stores in Castleford and Chesterfield volunteered to help restore historic Bagger Wood, near the Peak District National Park, as part of ProCook's partnership with the Woodland Trust.

Volunteers from the stores joined the Woodland Trust to work on the woodland area by removing tree guards and re-coppicing the sweet chestnut. They also had the opportunity to learn about Bagger Wood and the management challenges faced by the charity, including maintaining and preventing an infectious tree disease.

Earlier in the year, ProCook announced their partnership with the Woodland Trust to mitigate its current carbon emissions, as part of the company's long-term sustainability strategy. In addition to the core purpose of the partnership, ProCook employees have the opportunity to get their hands dirty and join the Woodland Trust on crucial planting and woodland restoration engagement days throughout the year, through ProCook's employee Good Cause Day scheme which allows staff to volunteer with a charity or social enterprise of their choice during work hours, fully paid.

Employees from ProCook's Castleford and Chesterfield stores chose Bagger Wood, which is in an attractive area of countryside near the Peak District National Park and the town of Barnsley. The woodland has considerable impact on the local landscape and forms a prominent skyline with pine trees on the higher north-west facing slopes being a particularly beautiful landscape feature in the area.

The Store Managers of both ProCook Castleford and Chesterfield said, ‘it's amazing to be given the opportunity to volunteer for Woodland Trust Engagement Days at ProCook. We all loved taking part and learning about local woodlands that are right on our doorstep.’
