Kitting out your kitchen can streamline the way you cook, but knowing what is considered a ‘kitchen essential’ can be tricky. After all, ask two people what they consider an essential and they’re likely to give you two different answers. However, there are certain kitchen gadgets, pieces of cookware and kitchenware that are a necessity, which is why we’ve created this handy list of recommended kitchen essentials that’ll transform your kitchen space and cooking skills.

1. Quality Cookware

Quality cookware is a necessity. Not only does good quality cookware offer better heat retention and distribution, but the cookware will also have better construction and be more durable. Nowadays, there’s a variety of materials to choose from, all with different coatings, so you can choose a cookware set that suits your needs and preferences the most.

Ideally, you’ll need a couple of saucepans in various sizes, a frying pan, saute pan, wok and a few roasting tins. A cast iron casserole dish can also be a helpful piece of cookware that’ll prove useful during the colder months when warming dishes are desired.

Kitchen knives are an integral part of cooking as they provide us with a way to swiftly (and safely) meal prep. Finding the perfect knife can be tricky, though, as there are numerous handle shapes and blades to choose from. We have - at the time of writing this - 9 core kitchen knife ranges, all with their own unique styles. From traditional, classic designs to more modern designs, there’s a knife for everyone.

A chef’s knife, paring knife, bread knife and vegetable knife are all fantastic starter knives for the home cook. Santoku and nakiri knives are also fantastic additions to the kitchen with their Asian-inspired blades.

3. Plastic and Wooden Chopping Boards

Chopping boards are a must-have. Not only do they provide you with a clean, safe place to chop, but they also reduce cross contamination and reduce the likelihood of knives becoming blunt quicker.

We offer an assortment of chopping boards, including plastic and wooden boards as well as chopping boards with coloured tabs to help distinguish what food types should be prepped where to reduce the chance of cross-contamination.

Placing hot pans and roasting tins directly onto kitchen countertops can cause damage. A trivet is the perfect way to protect your worktops from warm cookware, making them a kitchen essential for everyone.

Make delicious toasties with our Sandwich Toaster. Easy to use and offering fantastic results, our Sandwich Toaster sits on your stovetop and cooks two toasties at once. If you top your toasties with cheese, enjoy its oozing, melting middle and it's crisp exterior.

Made from cast aluminium the toastie maker heats quickly and evenly, and has a safety catch to keep melted cheese contained inside the toastie maker during use. Easy to clean and use, this also makes for a wonderful gift.

A great way to make quick home toasties, simply heat the toastie maker thoroughly on each side on the hob (not suitable for induction hobs). Prepare a sandwich with whichever flavours you wish, and butter the outside pieces of bread. Place the sandwich inside the hot toastie maker and close the lid, ensuring the catch is closed on the handle. Cook your toastie for 30 seconds on each side to seal, and then continue cooking for around 3 minutes flipping every 30 seconds.
