Homemade almond butter

Made from 3 ingredients, our almond butter recipe is creamy, nutty and nutritious. This recipe is also vegan and gluten-free.

Full of healthy fats and packed with protein, almond butter can be a nutritional spread for those wanting to increase their intake of fibre and vitamins. Add a spoonful to your porridge, top toast or drizzle over pancakes for a healthy and delicious breakfast or brunch.

What you'll need...

  • 450g raw almonds
  • Avocado oil
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • 1 tsp maple syrup, optional

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C / 160C Fan / Gas 4.

  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the almonds on top, making sure to keep an even layer without overlapping or overcrowding. Place in the oven and toast them for 10 minutes. Remove and allow to cool.

  3. Pour the toasted almonds to a food processor. Blitz the almonds, stopping every 30 seconds to scrape down the sides of the food processor’s bowl. The almond mixture will be slightly chunky at first. However, the more you process, the creamier and smoother it will become. Keep an eye on the texture and stop when you reach your desired smoothness. Add a sprinkle of sea salt before the final pulse.

  1. If the almond mixture isn’t coming together or becoming smooth enough, add a tsp of avocado oil to help it blend.

  2. Serve straight away on toast or spoon into airtight, glass jars, seal shut and store in a dark, room temperature cupboard for 3-4 weeks. You can refrigerate up to 3 months if you wish.
