Cooked in an air fryer, our hot honey chicken tenders are coated with crushed cornflakes to give them that satisfying crunch.

What you'll need...

  • 1 large egg
  • 70g cornflakes, crushed
  • 90g plain flour
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 350g chicken fillets
  • 3 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the hot honey sauce

  • 5 tbsp honey
  • 2 tsp soy sauce (light or dark is fine)
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • Hot sauce, to taste
  • Chilli flakes, optional

Method

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 180C if needed.

  2. Beat the egg in a bowl large enough to dip the chicken fillets in.

  3. Process the cornflakes in a food processor or crush them in a plastic bag with a rolling pin. Avoid turning the cornflakes into dust. Pour into another bowl.

  4. Add the plain flour, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper into another large bowl and mix. Take a chicken fillet and coat in the flour mixture, then coat in the beaten egg before rolling in the crushed cornflakes.

  1. Place the coated chicken in the air fryer basket, making sure they’re not touching each other, and air fry for 10-12 minutes, or until cooked through and crispy on the outside. You can check whether the chicken is cooked through by using a meat thermometer (it should read 75C).

  2. While the chicken is cooking, make the hot honey sauce.

  3. Mix the honey, garlic, soy sauce and hot sauce together. If you’re using chilli flakes instead, add these too. Microwave for 10-20 seconds to warm the sauce up.

  4. Either coat the chicken tenders with the hot honey sauce or serve as a dip instead. Serve alongside other dishes like coleslaw and chips.
