Slow cooker honey glazed ham

For many, honey glazed ham is a classic festive dish and traditionally served throughout the Christmas period. We’ve covered the ham in a sticky, sweet honey and mustard glaze which complements the saltiness of the meat and popped it in the slow cooker.

Whether you’re serving it alongside the Christmas turkey or it’s a Boxing Day tradition, our slow cooker honey glazed ham will have everyone licking their lips. Can be enjoyed warm, cold, with or without all the festive trimmings.

What you'll need...

  • 1.5kg boneless, rolled gammon (smoked or unsmoked is fine)
  • 1 onion, peeled and chopped
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp English or Dijon mustard
  • 1 ½ tbsp demerara sugar

Method

  1. Place the gammon and onion in the slow cooker and add 100ml of water. Cover with the slow cooker lid and cook on low for 8 hours, or until the pork is thoroughly cooked through. 

  2. Remove the lid and lift out the pork and place onto a cutting board. Allow it to rest for 10-15 minutes. 

  3. Preheat the oven to 220C / 200C Fan. Remove the string tied around the gammon. Take a chef's knife and carefully remove the ham’s rind, leaving behind a thin layer of fat. Lightly score the fat in a crisscross pattern. 

  1. Line a roasting tin with a piece of foil and place the ham on top with the fat facing upwards. Make sure to crumble the edges of the foil. Mix the honey, mustard and sugar together in a bowl and spread it over the ham’s fat. Cook the ham in the oven for 10-15 minutes or until the fat is nicely browned and crisped up. 

  2. Slice and serve. This honey glazed ham can be enjoyed warm or cold, with or without all the Christmas trimmings.
