Spiced orange liqueur

A zesty, slightly spiced liqueur that’s smooth and pleasing to drink. Perfect for intimate or special occasions.

We love sipping on this spiced orange liqueur when paired with lemonade or sparkling water, making it incredibly easy to drink. With a delicate aroma of oranges and winter spices, this spiced drink perfectly complements the colder evenings.

What you'll need...

  • 6 organic oranges, washed
  • 1 litre of good quality vodka
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 vanilla pod
  • 2-3 cloves
  • 600g caster sugar

Method

  1. Gently remove the outer layer zest from the oranges using a sharp peeler or paring knife will work, taking care to avoid the bitter white pith.

  2. Pour the vodka into a clean, sterile container that holds up to 2 litres - this will allow for the additional flavours and sugar. Add the spices and orange peel, then seal with a lid. Gently turn and shake the container each day for a week to help the flavours infuse. 

  3. After a week, dissolve the sugar in 500ml of boiled water and stir to dissolve. Set aside to cool.  

  1. Add the cooled syrup to the vodka mix, seal and shake to combine. Leave for another week before straining into small decorative bottles. Give as gifts or enjoy as a drink with tonic or sparkling wine.

  2. If you enjoy these flavours but not the alcohol, it’s easy to turn this recipe into a cordial. Dissolve 250g of caster sugar in 250ml water in a saucepan. Add in the peel of 3 oranges along with the spices, bring to a gentle boil and let it bubble for 2-3 minutes. Remove from the heat and leave to steep for an hour. Strain and store in sterilised bottles in the fridge. Enjoy with sparkling water or lemonade.
