Air fryer chestnuts

If you love roasted chestnuts but don’t have a fireplace to warm them, then the air fryer is a great alternative.

Serve up a batch of air fryer chestnuts this festive season for a tasty, seasonal treat. With their nutty flavour and toasted exterior, you can enjoy them on their own, add them to the stuffing or pair them with a glass of brandy or whiskey.

What you'll need...

  • 450g chestnuts, washed and dried
  • Sea salt

Method

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 190C. 

  2. Use a paring knife to score an ‘X’ on the rounded side of the chestnuts. 

  3. Add water to a large saucepan and bring to a boil. Add the chestnuts and leave for 5 minutes. Remove using a slotted spoon and transfer straight to the air fryer. 

  1. Sprinkle some sea salt and shake well for even coverage. Leave to air fry for 10 minutes. Shake the air fryer basket or use a utensil to turn over the chestnuts. Cook for a further 10 minutes. Check whether they’re ready by seeing if the exposed flesh has browned. If it hasn’t, leave to cook for a further 5 minutes or until ready. 

  2. Remove from the air fryer and allow to cool down ever so slightly, making them comfortable to handle. Peel them to eat and enjoy while still warm.
