Halloween brownies

Get into the Halloween spirit with these cheesecake brownies, perfectly spooky with their black and orange colour palette. A delicious treat for kids and adults.

Whether you’re handing out homemade treats to trick or treaters, throwing a Halloween party or getting cosy with scary movies, these cheesecake brownies are sure to go down a treat. Turn them chocolate orange by adding a splash of orange flavouring if you dare!

What you'll need...

For the brownies

  • 350g dark chocolate, melted
  • 250g butter, melted
  • 250g dark brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 120g plain flour
  • Black food colouring, optional

For the cheesecake

  • 300g full fat cream cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 65g caster sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Orange food colouring
  • Orange flavouring, optional

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 180C / 160C fan / gas mark 4. Grease and line a medium-sized baking tray with parchment paper.

  2. Make the cheesecake part of the brownie by mixing the cream cheese, egg, caster sugar, vanilla extract and orange flavouring if using with an electric whisk, stand mixer or by hand until smooth. Add a small amount of orange food colouring, mix and adjust until you get your desired colour. Set aside until later.

  3. Once you’ve melted the dark chocolate and butter, stir together and set aside until cool (approximately 5-10 mins). While the chocolate-butter mix is cooling, mix the dark brown sugar and eggs in a separate bowl until frothy.

  4. Slowly pour the chocolate-butter mix into the egg mixture, making sure to constantly whisk. Add the plain flour and gently whisk until combined. If turning the brownies black, add a dash of black food colouring until you reach a nice, dark shade. Gently stir it in.

  1. Pour two thirds of the brownie mix into the baking tin. Add the cheesecake mix on top then use a spoon to distribute the rest of the brownie mix on top in blobs. Using a cutlery knife or the back of a small spoon, gently swirl the mixture around to create the desired pattern.

  2. Bake in the oven for 30 minutes or until cooked through – use a toothpick to check by piercing the brownie and seeing whether it comes out clean.

  3. Remove from the oven and allow to cool. Place the tin in the fridge before cutting into portions and serving. Keep in the fridge to avoid spoiling.
